Ruby Leung receives DARPA Award
Ruby Leung (PNNL), in collaboration with Themistoklis Sapsis (PI, MIT) and George Karniadakis (Brown University/PNNL), receives the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) award in response to a call for proposal on AI-assisted Climate Tipping-point Modeling (ACTM). Their proposal, titled “Quantification of extreme weather events and their future changes using Physics-Informed DeepONet modeling and functional priors”, will improve E3SM using operator based and physics informed ML techniques to bias correct model simulations, as informed by global reanalysis and SCREAM global storm-scale simulations constrained by observations. The improved standard-resolution E3SM, together with SCREAM, will be used to project future changes in storm structure and characteristics.
