Leadership Transitions and New Appointments
Recent months have brought several important leadership updates and group restructurings across the organization. As shared in the August newsletter, Xujing Davis has transitioned from her role at BER EESSD to become SciDAC Program Manager at ASCR within the DOE Office of Science, effective September 7th. The project extends its appreciation to Xujing for her leadership and contributions to E3SM over the past five years, and wishes her all the best in her new position.
Gary Geernaert, the director of the Earth and Environmental Systems Sciences Division within BER, DOE, will serve as interim E3SM’s program manager. Check his opening story in this edition’s Newsletter.
E3SM has also welcomed new group leads and announced key group mergers. Naser Mahfouz has been appointed Group Lead (GL) for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) pilot group, and Shocheng Xie will serve as GL for the Seasonal-to-Decadal (S2D) pilot group.
There have also been several group changes since the May update. The EAMxx group, led by Group Lead Chris Terai with deputies Aaron Donahue and Susannah Burrows, will be joined by the EAMv3 group, adding Hailong Wang as another deputy, forming a new “Atmosphere” group. Similarly, the Polar Processes, Sea-Level Change, and Coastal Impacts Group, led by Group Lead Andrew Roberts and deputy Steve Price, will merge with the Ice group, adding Darin Comeau as another deputy, forming a new “Polar Dynamics” group.
Sarat Sreepathi has left DOE and Andrew Salinger will step into his Performance Coordinator role.
E3SM thanks all outgoing and incoming leaders for their dedication, and looks forward to continued progress as these transitions take effect.
