Data availability: E3SM v3 LR DECK Plus and EAMv2,v3 AI Training Data
E3SM Data Publication is pleased to announce the release of the “E3SM v3 LR CMIP6 DECK Plus” simulation datasets. These sets, almost 3000 in total, cover the following activities and experiments:
This initial v3 LR release covers the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) Diagnosis, Evaluation, and Characterization of Klima (DECK) plus historical simulations. From the paper:
- E3SMv3 introduces major updates to the atmosphere, sea ice, and land components, enhancing capability and improving fidelity
- E3SMv3 increases resolution in the ocean-sea ice mesh and unifies land and river grids for tighter coupling within and between components
- Reduced aerosol forcing in E3SMv3 resolves mid-20th century cooling biases, aligning historical temperature trends with observations
These datasets are currently available through the development search link: ESGF MetaGrid.
In Addition, the E3SM project and Allen Institute for AI (Ai2) have developed several datasets for AI and machine learning applications. These datasets have been post-processed for ingestion by the ACE/FourCastNet emulator. Currently the EAMv2 and EAMv3 training datasets are made available on NERSC HPSS. Upcoming datasets like “E3SMv3” (coupled pre-industrial/historical), “SCREAMv1” (a cloud-resolving atmosphere model) and datasets such as “E3SMv3” (coupled) and “SCREAMv1” training data will also be made available.
