  • The E3SM project would like to announce the leadership changes in the Human-Earth System Feedbacks (HES) Group, recognizing important past contributions while looking ahead to its next chapter.

Ben Bond-Lamberty of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is stepping down from his role as Group Lead after providing outstanding leadership through Phases 2 and 3 of the E3SM project. During his tenure, Ben helped guide the group’s scientific direction and strengthened its contributions to the broader E3SM mission. The project team is deeply grateful for his steady leadership, vision, and dedication, and extends its warmest thanks and best wishes as he begins his next endeavors.

Stepping into the Group Lead role is Jennifer Holm of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who previously served as Deputy Group Lead. Jennifer brings strong continuity, experience, and insight to the position, and the project is excited to see her lead the HES Group into its next phase of work.

The group is pleased to welcome back Kate Calvin of PNNL in her Deputy Group Lead role. Kate, who stepped into the deputy position earlier this year, brings valuable experience and perspective, including her previous service as lead of the Biogeochemical Cycles (BGC) Group during Phase 2 of E3SM. In her current role, she will help strengthen the group’s focus on E3SM’s energy mission.

The project also extends its sincere thanks to Nicole Jeffery of Los Alamos National Laboratory, who is stepping down from her role as Deputy Group Lead. Nicole’s leadership and contributions have been greatly valued within the HES Group, and the team is grateful for the insight, commitment, and support she brought to the role.

Together, this transition highlights the depth of leadership across the HES Group and positions the team well for continued success. E3SM thanks Ben and Nicole for their many contributions, congratulates Jennifer on her new role, and warmly welcomes Kate back to project leadership.
