Modeling/E3SM Subgroup in ARM User Executive Committee Chaired by Susannah Burrows
The Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) user facility, a DOE Office of Science user facility managed by the Office of Biological and Environmental Research, provides the climate research community with strategically located in situ and remote-sensing observatories designed to improve the understanding and representation, in climate and earth system models, of clouds and aerosols as well as their interactions and coupling with the Earth’s surface.
The ARM User Executive Committee (UEC) provides objective, timely feedback to the leadership of the ARM user facility with respect to the user experience. The committee serves as the official voice of the user community in its interactions with ARM management.
In 2021, a subgroup within UEC was created to bridge the gap between the ARM measurements and the global climate and earth sytem (GCM) models, such as Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM). The “Enhancing Communication – Modeling/E3SM” Subgroup is led by E3SM’s Deputy Group Lead for the E3SM Biogeochemical Cycles Group – Susannah Burrows.
The UEC subgroup of experts will provide recommendations to ARM regarding how the user facility can effectively work with modeling centers. The subgroup was also tasked with recommending approaches that would help enable more effective use of ARM data in current and future model development efforts.
More information about the subgroup can be found in the ARM news article:
