By Resolution
The E3SM project is currently (April 2019) in the second year of the v1 simulation campaign. For details, please check
As simulations are completed and when the first paper describing and analyzing the data and the simulations is accepted, the data from those runs is published to the Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) data holdings and is free to download.
The v1 simulation campaign utilized E3SM model in two distinct resolution configurations.
Standard Resolution: 1 deg Atmosphere, 60-30 km Ocean
The v1.0 water cycle standard resolution configuration, designated here as “v1 1deg Atm, 60-30km Ocn“, has approximate horizontal resolution of 1 deg latitude by 1 deg longitude in atmosphere (110 km grid spacing), with ocean and sea ice grid of 60 km in the mid-latitudes and 30 km at the equator and poles, and river transport at 55 km horizontal resolution.
High Resolution: 0.25 deg Atmosphere, 18-6 km Ocean
The v1.0 water cycle high resolution configuration, “v1 0.25deg Atm, 18-6km Ocn“, has approximate horizontal resolution of 0.25 deg latitude by 0.25 deg longitude in atmosphere (… km grid spacing), with ocean and sea ice grid of 18 km in the mid-latitudes and 6 km at the equator and poles, and river transport at … km horizontal resolution.
